Gerard (Gerry) Philipps-Gange, B.A., B.Sc., M.A., RP is a Registered Psychotherapist with over 25 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges with greater resilience, insight, and hope. Since establishing his private practice in 2004, Gerry has worked with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, anger, life transitions, and workplace stress. He believes that meaningful therapy begins with a genuine human connection and strives to provide a warm, respectful, and non-judgmental environment where clients feel safe to explore their experiences. Gerry holds both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Toronto, followed by a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Adler University in Chicago. His Adlerian training continues to influence his therapeutic philosophy, emphasizing encouragement, belonging, purpose, and the belief that people are capable of growth and positive change regardless of their past circumstances. Throughout his career, Gerry has worked in a variety of hospital, community, educational, and forensic settings, including York University, The Scarborough Hospital, Our Place Peel, St. Leonard’s Society, the Institute of Traditional Medicine, Helix Healthcare and Youthdale Treatment Centres. These diverse experiences have provided him with a deep understanding of complex mental health concerns, trauma, family dynamics, and the many ways people strive to overcome adversity. Gerry practices from an integrative perspective, tailoring therapy to the unique needs of each client. Drawing from Adlerian Psychology, Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Humanistic Psychology, mindfulness, narrative therapy, Gestalt techniques, and other evidence-based approaches, he combines practical strategies with opportunities for deeper self-understanding. His work is grounded in the belief that lasting change occurs when individuals develop greater awareness of their patterns while building the skills and confidence needed to create healthier relationships and more meaningful lives. In addition to his psychotherapy practice, Gerry has spent more than two decades facilitating anger management groups, including court-approved programs for individuals referred through the legal system, workplaces, and community agencies. His approach helps participants understand the purpose of anger, develop emotional regulation skills, improve communication, and build healthier ways of responding during conflict. Gerry is also passionate about mentoring the next generation of psychotherapists. As Director of Clinical Supervision at Prism Psychotherapy in Picton, Ontario, he provides supervision and consultation to developing clinicians, supporting them in building sound clinical judgment, ethical practice, and confidence in their therapeutic work. He is a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), the North American Society of Adlerian Psychology (NASAP), the Canadian Association for Psychodynamic Therapy (CAPT), the Canadian Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP). Whether working with an individual struggling with anxiety, a couple seeking to reconnect, a family facing conflict, or a therapist developing their professional identity, Gerry’s goal remains the same: to help people discover greater self-understanding, strengthen their relationships, and move toward lives marked by resilience, purpose, and genuine connection.
